Kualoa Ranch is Hawaii's most versatile wedding location with over 4,000 acres of natural beauty ... from secret beaches to hidden valleys and majestic mountains; from ancient Hawaiian cultural sites to historic ranch buildings. Secluded gardens, and spectacular vistas. Kualoa has it all. Kualoa Regional Park is a serene and beautiful place at the northern end of Kane'oho Bay. This spacious park is located at the Kane'ohe Point in the heart of the Ko'olau Poko land division.

A 4,000-acre ranch established in 1850, Kualoa Ranch will wow couples looking for a little bit of country with its rustic Ranch House and/or a little bit of Hawaiian soul with its gardens, beaches and cultural sites.

Kualoa means "long ancestral background" in the Hawaiian language, a fitting tribute to the area's interesting history. In the old Hawaii, chiefs brought their children here to learn learn about their heritage and traditions. The park itself was once a sacred town. Today, the park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

One of Kualoa Park's main attractions is the view to nearby Mokoli'i Island. According to an ancient legend, the island is a fluke from the tail of a large dragon. Hi'iaka, sister of the goddess Pele, slew the creature and threw its tail into the bay. Mokoli'i, which means "little lizard," is said to be part of the tail. From the shore, the island looks a bit like a coolie's hat, which has earned it the nickname "Chinaman's Hat". In fact, this is a very popular place to put a kayak in the ocean and paddle out to Chinaman's Hat.

Many Hollywood blockbusters have been filmed at Kualoa Ranch since the 1950's. Jurassic sets like the lndominus Rex dinosaur pen, the Jurassic Park gate, Godzilla's footprints, the bunkers from LOST, a Hawaii Five-0 set, and the location of the Hukilau Cafe from 50 First Dates.

The beach at Kualoa Park is narrow and the nearshore ocean bottom is shallow with some rocky patches. So the swimming isn't that great here. At the south end of the park is a stone barrier, so this is a nice area for a dip. This is also where two ancient Hawaiian fishponds are located - Moli'i and Apua Fishpond.

Mellow little waves lap against the thin strip of white sand; and the turqoise water is protected by a large barrier reef about 1/2 mile off shore. The highway runs closer to the mountains here than at many other beaches in windward Oaho, so Kualoa Regional Park is a place you can come to escape the buzz of traffic.

You will rarely find this place crowded, just perfect for a day of solitude and relaxation. The water is calm and warm. The Ko'olau Mountains in the background form a gentle crescent which nestle the beach Kualoa Regional Park between the mountains and the ocean. In the distance you can see Kane'ohe, Kailua and the coast stretching down towards Waimanalo.

You are definitely in for a treat at Kualoa Regional Park. In addition to the beach and beautiful view; there is a large and well mainatined lawn; a good place to throw a frisbee or play ball. The field is sprinkled with several shade trees which are great for relaxing beneath in the heat of the day; and the flat water in the bay make for excellnt kayaking conditions.

According to the early Hawaiians this location used to be very sacred due to whale bones frequently washing ashore. These whale bones were then used as jewelry and tools. Kualoa Regional Park is located off Highway 83 north of Waikane.
